Welwitchia University today, 01 October 2026 proudly joined the Municipal Council of Windhoek, UNICEF, and other key partners in commemorating the 2026 Health and Hygiene Promotion Month and Global Handwashing Day, under the global theme “Be a Handwashing Hero.”
The event, hosted at the City of Windhoek Town House, brought together schools, community groups, businesses, and institutions to highlight the importance of handwashing as a simple yet powerful tool in preventing illness. Special emphasis was placed on hygiene, food safety, and sanitation in markets, malls, schools, and community settings.
As part of its ongoing partnership agreement with the City of Windhoek, Welwitchia University actively participated in the programme, reinforcing its commitment to community engagement and public health promotion. Through this collaboration, the University continues to support initiatives that empower Namibians with knowledge and practices that safeguard health and strengthen communities.
Speaking at the event, representatives from the school of Public and Allied Health emphasized that handwashing is not just a routine action but a life-saving practice. Welwitchia University’s involvement reflects its dedication to advancing health education and contributing to national efforts that align with Namibia’s broader public health goals.
The commemoration featured awareness campaigns, performances, and interactive activities designed to inspire individuals to become “Handwashing Heroes” in their daily lives.
